If you’ve searched sailing courses near me and found little to no information, Lanier Sailing Academy may be what you’re looking for to start learning how to sail. With the ASA 101 - Basic Keelboat Certification class, students will be able to skipper a 20-27 sloop-rigged keelboat in the day with winds up to 15 knots. Students will learn basic sailing terminology, helm commands, and navigation rules to avoid hazards and collisions.
With the ASA 103 - Basic Coastal Cruising class, students will learn how to skipper sloop-rigged auxiliary keelboats up to 35 feet in length in moderate winds up to 20 knots. Students will learn about auxiliary boat operations, docking procedures, and basic coastal navigation.
In this class, students will be able to skipper sloop-rigged auxiliary powered keelboats up to 45 feet in length on a multi-day inland cruise in moderate to heavy sea conditions. You’ll learn how to provision the boat, how to anchor and moor the sailboat, and what to do in extreme emergencies.
Upon completing the ASA 105 - Basic Coastal Navigation class, students can apply navigational theory and practices needed to captain a vessel inland and in coastal waters safely. Students can expect to learn to chart a course from terrestrial objects using several methods and convert courses and bearings between true, magnetic, and compass.
In this exciting class, students will live aboard the vessel and learn how to skipper an auxiliary-powered catamaran up to 45 feet in length on a multi-day cruise in moderate to heavy winds and sea conditions. While similar to a sailboat, a catamaran’s structure requires further education and instruction for operation during adverse weather conditions, and students can expect to learn the differences and more.
In our ASA 118 - Docking Endorsement class, students will learn the safety rules and regulations to safely dock an auxiliary-powered (single inboard or outboard engine) sailboat. You’ll learn about the engine and steering controls, crew communication and safety, and the proper use of docking and unmooring lines.
